Police officers from Sai Kung station and several other units have arrested two members of a notorious mainland burglary gang at Pak Tam Chung, Senior Inspector Jacky Chan said. The young gangsters, 18 and 19 years old, are suspected to be members of “Wei Jiabang”, a burglary ring with hundreds of members based at Guangxi. The “Wei Jiabang” has been so severely harassed by the mainland police that its burglars are thought to have sought easier pickings in Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore and Malaysia.
Jacky, who is the local police operations boss, said the fingerprints of the arrested men will be compared with those found at burgled houses. Other gangsters may be at large in Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay, Jacky said. Residents are asked to report suspicious men, but not until they are in a safe location. The “Wei Jiabang” men are believed to be poorly educated but daring and skillful in the arts of burglary.
Officers from Sai Kung and Tseung Kwan O police stations and Kowloon East Regional Tactical Unit supported by GFS helicopters have been searching the Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay hills. The arrested pair were spotted lurking suspiciously at Pak Tam Chung. They told police they were “sight-seeing” but could not name the sights they wanted to see. They are here on two-way permits that are about to expire. The police suspect they were reconnoitering houses to break into.
