Around 9:30 am yesterday morning (17/7), a traffic accident occurred in Sai Sha Road, Sai kung Road near Kei Ling Ha San Wai. A 24-seater tour bus was travelling along Sai Sha Road in the direction of Sai Kung when the driver lost control and crashed into a car travelling in the opposite direction to Kowloon.

The car then spun onto the pavement, and the front of the car badly damaged. The 62-year-old was trapped for a time and was later rescued by fire fighters. He suffered injuries to his chest and pelvis and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment in a semi-conscious state.

After preliminary investigation, the police found that the 51-year-old tourist bus driver failed to pass the rapid oral fluid test and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others. He is currently being detained for investigation. The case was handed over to the Second Team of the Traffic Accident Investigation Team of the New Territories South Region for follow-up.

As seen in the pictures from the scene, the front of the private car was dented in a V-shaped shape, and the tailgate popped open, causing more serious damage; the right front of the tour bus minibus was also damaged.

The Transport Department said that due to the accident, parts of the both traffic lanes of Sai Sha Road were closed, and traffic was temporarily blocked.
