Anti-extradition Bill protesters are planning to block access to the airport Saturday lunchtime – 24 August. In keeping with the devolved nature of protest organisers, there are two planned events called “‘Jam’ with us Airport Transportation Stress Test” or “Airport Delay No More and Airport Express Clean-up”. The former is planned to run from 7:00 – 11:00am: the latter from 12:00 – 11:30 pm.
Starting around 7:00 am protesters will see how many ways there are to get to the airport – by foot, bike, bus, train, or car – and how the various forms of transport can cope with delays. Of course, the cause of the delays have not been explicitly stated, but if previous transportation protests are anything to go by, this would involve opening or blocking bus and train doors; blocking the road; slow drives; and flooding platforms, bus stops with dozens if not hundreds of people.
As with many of the protests announced on social media, not all will happen as planned; travellers to the airport are advised to keep up to date via the various news platforms. Whatever happens, there will be delays, as many protesters will take some action even if the main event is called off. At the time of writing only the morning event had been confirmed. The afternoon event may be cancelled as it clashes with the protest march in Kwun Tong.
