“Swan Lake” was Tchaikovsky’s first ballet, composed in 1875. It’s a love story mixing magic, tragedy and romance told in four acts lasting two and a half hours. Prince Siegfried woos the lovely swan Odette and they fall in love. But their path is not easy. A sorcerer plays tricks and Siegfried’s daughter appears as the black swan, Odile. There are confusion, betrayal, forgiveness and a happy ending.

The Hong Kong Ballet is turning on a series of spectacular performances for its anniversary. Coming up in the months ahead are “International Gala of Stars 2019”, “The Nutcracker”, “Hong Kong Cool: Ballet X Fashion”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Balanchine’s Jewels” and “Romeo and Juliet”.
