A third isolation/quarantine centre is about to open in Sai Kung. With Lady Maclehose Holiday Village and Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp rapidly filling up, the government is preparing the Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre in the form of modular houses to isolate people who have had close contact with patients diagnosed with new pneumonia without symptoms.
Lady MacLehose Holiday Camp, Lei Yue Men Park Resort and Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp have been converted into quarantine centres, providing a total of 97 units. As of the early morning of 2 February, 71 units have been used.
The government estimates that the number of close contacts who need to be quarantined will increase rapidly. If the quarantine centres becomes inadequate, they will need to arrange home isolation for close contacts without symptoms. Therefore, they are preparing to increase the accommodation at the three centres. The first batch of about 100 units will be completed as early as mid-March.
At the same time, government announced that it will start preparations to convert the Heritage Lodge at Jao Tsung-I Academy, Lai Chi Kok, into a quarantine centre, providing 53 units. It is also planning for the Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre to have 100 mobile units which would be ready by mid-March at the earliest.
