One killed, and one injured, in accidents at High Island Reservoir

Two hiking accidents occurred yesterday at the East Dam of the High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung East Country Par. The first. at 11:00 am resulted in one woman being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital for injuries to her head, hands and feet. The other, at 4:00 pm, occurred when a woman fell 50m to her death.

The 41-year-old who died and her 52-year-old  friend set off from Pak Tam Chung at about 10:00 am. At 3 pm, they left the mountain path and climbed a stone wall, even though there were signs warning this was dangerous and prohibited. They were seen climbing the cliff to take pictures of the sea cave at the end of the dam. He saw the woman stumble, then fall 50m on to the rocks below.  He  quickly called the police to the scene. He pointed out that many people at the scene ignored the warning signs and took pictures across the railing in the sea cave. The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Eastern District Hospital.
