Police explain new Project Eyewatcher banners now displayed at village entrances

Look out for the cameras in your village

Residents will have noticed PROJECT EYEWATCHER banners that have gone up at the entrances to many villages recently. BUZZ asked the local police what this was all about. The following reply came from Chief Inspector Ivy Li of Kowloon East Regional Crime Prevention Office:

PROJECT EYEWATCHER is a rural burglary prevention project which started in November 2018. The project entails the following initiatives to enhance the security in rural areas in Kowloon East, including Sai Kung and rural area in Tseung Kwan O:

– Encouraging residents through the help of rural committees to install CCTVs at home to deter burglary;
– Providing security advice to rural committees on village-wise security enhancement and alert them of relevant trends;
– Disseminating relevant leaflets according to crime trends; and
– Conducting seminars to residents on enhancing the security measures adopted at home, such as installing motion detectors, burglar alarms and CCTVs.

Recently, we have put up banners at various villages with the consent of village heads to raise anti-burglary awareness, as well as to encourage the idea of neighbourhood watch so that neighbours would help report suspected burglary cases or where suspicious persons are spotted to be wandering in the villages.

The project is an ongoing one and we hope that more villages would enhance their security measures and welcome our attempts to provide talks on relevant security advice.
