Cooking Plaza is in Sai Kung Town Centre complex
Cooking Plaza opened its doors a little over two months ago in the lane between Blocks A/B/C and D/E/F of Sai Kung Town Centre behind ParkNShop. This airy and well-organized shop is stocked with various fresh vegetables, many locally grown and organic, and with fruit and other food items. Run by three sisters (Jane, Jenny and Joey) and their nephew (Paul, a fourth sister’s son), this family business is a fortunate find for anyone who desires quality fresh produce and a friendly and helpful service.
The clean and bright interior is very welcoming
What makes Cooking Plaza so special is their passion and dedication to stocking the freshest and quality products and their eagerness to greet their customers with a helpful approach. They themselves would try out different supplier’s products first just to make sure that the products they put on their shelves are of the quality they want. Joey gets up at 1:00 am each day to go to the fruit market and then to the New Territories to bring back fresh supplies. Many of their fresh produce are deliberately sourced from local producers in the New Territories for freshness and as support for them.

Situated slightly off the main road, Cooking Plaza could easily be missed by many Sai Kungers, but for it’s neighbourhood customers, the shop has already become a friendly and helpful place to shop for their daily needs. Jenny says some customers have become like ‘family’ in so short a time, happy to exchange with them details of their daily lives.

When Cooking Plaza started operations, it was a dream come true for Joey, who had once managed a fresh produce business in Hang Hau. Having moved to Sai Kung two years ago, Joey discovered that she was not able to find quality vegetables there. She started to seriously think of opening a fresh produce shop of her own to bring quality products to the Sai Kung community. From her conception idea to the reality of opening a shop, it took just a few months. Joey’s older sisters Jane and Jenny, both having recently retired, decided to join in to help Joey with her venture. To make it a complete family affair, they have also enlisted their nephew Paul (son of another sister) to join them.

Though all businesses must make enough profits to survive, Jenny explained that making profit is not their primary motivation. They decided to set a low profit margin in order to benefit customers. Jenny said they are just happy that the family can all work together, that they can help to make their little sister Joey’s dream come true and that they are also able to put their own work experience and network to good use. For them, just receiving a customer’s appreciation in return is already sufficient reward.

To help residents who are not able to go to their shop physically, Cooking Plaza says they can deliver (free of charge) to addresses within 10-15 minutes driving distance from Sai Kung town for orders of minimum $100 which must includes at least one catty of leafy vegetables.
