Danger of financial collapse at Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation has passed as animal lovers come out in support

Headlines in BUZZ and the local press saying that Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation was close to financial collapse have brought dog lovers out in support, SKSFF founder Narelle Pamuk said.

“We are secure for now. Lots of donors have come forward. We are so grateful to all the dog lovers who have come out to help us and for their appreciation of what we do,” Narelle said. “We are secure for the next 12 months.”

The foundation looks after about 130 dogs at its Tai Lam Wu village shelter and has many other services helping strays and abandoned dogs. Narelle said it costs about $200,000 a month to run the shelter and feed and care for its many four legged friends. Virtually all fund-raising events with which the SKSFF supports itself had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.

“We were desperate. I had a duty to make it public. I wish I had done it sooner because of all the stress I have been under. Now we can go on to bigger and better things.”

Narelle said SKSFF needs a backer for its TNR (trap neuter release) Fund. Every day she is having dogs desexed at the cost of $1800 for females and $1200 for males. Village Vets is very supportive with discounted prices. There are 40 to 50 dogs on the border now who need desexing. The fund needs about $40,000 a month solely for desexing and Narelle is looking for a new sponsor because the former one has had to withdraw support.

Donations to SKSFF are much appreciated.
