According to reports in Chinese language media, at 10:00 pm last night (14/10), a taxi driver picked up two “foreign” women in Lan Kwai Fong, Central, both of whom were very drunk. They asked to be taken to Sheung Sze Wan, Sai Kung.
While the taxi was driving, the two female passengers took off their masks in the car. The taxi driver asked them to wear the masks but the two passengers got very angry and argued with the driver. When the taxi got to Leung Fai TinĀ Road, one of the women vomited in the car. The driver immediately parked the car on the side of the road. At that point in the journey the fare was about HK$220.
The passengers paid some money but it wasn’t enough, and by that time the second passenger had also vomited in the taxi. The women ran off. The driver chased after them to get his money and also some compensation for cleaning the car.
One of the drunk women chased after the taxi driver when she saw him following and tried to hit him in the face. He was caught off guard and fell to the ground. The two women took the opportunity to flee but not after hitting him again. A passer-by helped to stop the two women when he saw the situation, by which time the police had arrived.
After preliminary investigation, one of the women who was suspected of wounding was arrested and detained for investigation. The taxi driver’s wrist and hand were injured and must be sent to hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the taxi driver has been driving a night-shift taxi for five years, and occasionally encountered some troublesome passengers, but nothing serious happened before.
