Truck hits motorcycle at Nam Pin Wai roundabout, Sai Kung; biker seriously injured and sent to hospital

A truck crashed into a motorcycle and rolled over on Hiram’s Highway this morning. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The accident happened at 8:29 this morning (10/2). A 16-tonne truck was driving along the Hiram’s Highway in the direction of Sai Kung when it lost control as it approached Nam Pin Wai roundabout, Ho Chung. It collided with a motorcycle and toppled over. The driver of the lorry was trapped for a time and then climbed out on his own. The motorcyclist was knocked to the ground and injured, his helmet flew off, and he was knocked unconscious. The drivers of other vehicles passing by immediately called the police. After police and ambulance arrived at the scene, they immediately treated and bandaged the motorcyclist, and then sent the him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

After the truck rolled over, a large amount of fuel flowed out, and the road was slippery. Police called the FEHD to come to clean up the oil, and a tow truck arrived at the scene to right the toppled vehicle.

Traffic was affected by the accident for around an hour with vehicle backed up towards Sai Kung, Nam Pin Wai and Wo Mei.
