Early in the morning, around 1:00 am, on Wednesday (20/3), a car caught fire in an open-air parking lot on Mei Fuk Street, Sai Kung. Thick smoke billowed into the sky, alerting many nearby residents to report the incident. Firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving the report and sent a team of smoke-hat protected firemen to put out the fire. The rear of the car was severely burned and turned into scrap metal. Another car nearby was also affected.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Firefighters found the remains of gas tanks in the back seat and trunk of the car that caught fire. They believed the cause of the fire was suspicious and handed the case to law enforcement authorities as “arson” for follow-up.

Officers checked the CCTV footage and found that a man walked into the parking lot holding a red plastic bag before the incident. The car caught fire shortly after that. It was reported that the man drove away after the fire broke out. It is not ruled out that he was involved in the arson attack. The owner of the car is reportedly not in Hong Kong. There is local media speculation that had a dispute with someone and his car was set on fire.
After preliminary investigation, the case was classified as arson and was handed over to the Fifth Team of the Wong Tai Sin Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. No one has been arrested yet and no one was injured in the case.
