At least two dogs poisoned at Po Lo Che

Docile and well-behaved Tomo came into contact with poison bait while walking in Sai Kung last week. His condition deteriorated quickly and he died.

At least two dogs were killed by poison bait on Tan Cheung Road, Po Lo Che, Sai Kung over the past couple of days, and the perpetrators are still at large. “MNA Dog Training – 馬蓮萊同鄉會” has offered $10,000 yuan to arrest the murderers, pointing out that one of the dogs, Tomo, who died of poisoning the day before was their student, “He was only 20 months old and died in vain at a very young age, we are really heartbroken”. Tomo’s owner and the owner of the other dog murdered, a golden retriever named Luna, have reported the case to the Sai Kung Police Station. There are fears that other dogs may also have been poisoned over the past week or so.

Tomo’s owner said that he arrived at a pedestrian path on Tan Cheung Road where the incident occurred at 1:00 pm on 21 April. Tomo had licked some dried meat, and she was not sure whether he swallowed it. At 4:00 pm, the dog suddenly vomited and twitched. She, and her husband, rushed Tomo to the vet, but unfortunately his condition deteriorated rapidly and, as he was suffering and in great pain, was finally euthanised at the clinic.

She described Tomo as a very special dog. He was adopted from the Society for the Protection of Animals and was very friendly with people and other dogs. Owing to his docile and well-behaved personality, the dog owner originally thought that Tomo could eventually be trained as a therapy dog, but his life has been cut short.

They said: “We who keep dogs really think that they are our children, not to mention that one of them was our student, which is really heart-breaking!”

Police appeal to citizens who have witnessed poisoning or have information about suspicious persons to provide information so that the perpetrators of animal murder can be brought to justice.
