Electric unicycle tyre starts smouldering on No. 94 bus to Sai Kung; passengers evacuated safely

Yesterday afternoon (4/10) a Route 94 KMB double deck bus was driving along Tai Mong Tsai Road towards Sai Kung when an electric unicycle belonging to one of the passengers started to emit a lot of smoke. The driver stopped the bus and managed to evacuate all the passengers safely.

According to local media a 27-year-old passenger was carrying an electric unicycle when the wheel started turning and began smouldering causing a lot of smoke in the compartment. One of the male passengers broke a window to let the smoke out while the bus passengers all safely disembarked.

Police and fire department attended the scene to investigate, but no fire was found.

Pictures on the Internet showed that the hot wheel was emitting lots of white smoke near the exit door on the lower deck of the bus. The owner of the unicycle is seen trying to extinguish the smoking wheel, but to no avail.

KMB said that when a KMB Route 94 bus approached Tai Mong Tsai Road near the Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre, an electric unicycle carried by one of the passengers began emitting smoke. The driver evacuated the passengers safely.

KMB is investigating the incident and reserves all rights to investigate. Police have classed the incident as not suspicious.
