A serious traffic accident occurred in Sai Kung last night (19/4) around 7:30 pm. Police received a report that a minibus was travelling along the Hiram’s Highway towards Sai Kung knocked down a female passer-by when it was driving past Marina Cove. A 58-year-old woman was injured on the left side of her body and lay unconscious on the road. She was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance and died at 8:59 pm.
According to on-site news, the woman was crossing the road when the incident happened. The 65-year-old minibus driver turned the steering wheel to dodge her and drove up onto the pavement, but he still couldn’t stop the bus and knocked the woman into the air for a few metres. The front windshield of the minibus was shattered, leaving a brake mark at the scene.
The belongings of the victim were scattered over the road. The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently being detained for investigation. The special investigation team of the Traffic Department of Kowloon East Region is following up the case.
