Owing to operational reasons this event is cancelled. BUZZ apologies to those readers looking forward to the event.
Entertainment lined up for the Concert for the Animals No. 4 is the best yet. This year the biggest animal welfare event on the Sai Kung calendar will be held at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club on 24 November. The show will start at 6:00 pm with a disc jockey pumping out popular music for the early dancers, then come the Sai Kung Mini-Singers, kids from the Arts Factory who sing and dance with their faces painted like kittens and puppies. They will be followed by the DJ again, then the musicians of Pineapple Jam. After that the high-energy Bollywood Dancers will get people up to practice with them, then they’ll turn on an audience-participation show. Later we will have DJ Alex Croft getting the well-lubricated crowd dancing merrily, followed by a second band rocking the night away.
Great veggie food will be available in the buffet
Tickets will be $300 for adults and $150 for kids if you wish to support this HONG KONG BUZZ-inspired animal welfare event (beneficiaries: Catherine’s Puppies, Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals, Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation and Kirsten’s Zoo, which rescues many cats in Sai Kung. A ticket entitles you to two standard drinks, and vegetarian buffet. If you’d like to support the Concert but can’t come, please buy a ticket anyway!
The Sai Kung Mini-singers delighted everyone, dancing and singing with their faces painted as puppies and kittens
Most people like the concept of a Concert for the Animals and as many as 400 people have turned up during the evening. Previously the event was held at Momentai and Tikitiki Bowling Bar, but with the latter no longer available, organisers have switched to the HHYC. The Club is used to handling large-scale events — witness its 24-hour Dinghy Race — and the show will be in the capable hands of Carol Biddell, HHYC General Manager Paul Arkright and HHYC Events Manager Charron Robertson. The venue will be decorated by Lizzie Sharp.
Pineapple Jam will get the joint rocking in the first half of the concert
The last Concert raised $78,000 and the organisers are aiming to top that this year with a target of $100,000. The beneficiaries are all marvellous people who are out there every day rescuing cats and dogs. Catherine’s Puppies now houses, feeds and pays the vet bills for about 100 dogs (Peter de Krassel, Chairman of Pets Central, is sponsoring the Concert by waiving $25,000 of Catherine’s vet bills), Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals, a group for finding lost animals and helping any that are lost or injured (which does not benefit financially from the event), and Sai Kung Stray Friends, run by Narelle Pamuk. Kirsten’s Zoo is a new beneficiary based on the Island but active in Sai Kung rescuing cats. Kirsten’s Zoo replaces Emily Pereira’s Hong Kong Cats as Emily has moved to the UK.
The concert will be held for the first time at Hebe Haven Yacht Club
