The Traffic Division of the Police Kowloon East Region launched a crackdown on traffic violations before the Easter holidays. On 21 and 22 March they sent people disguised as passengers to find taxis in Sai Kung district that refused to take passengers and failed to turn on the meter. Three summonses will be issued. One driver was ticketed and the police issued a total of five fixed penalty notices for other traffic offences.

In addition, police yesterday (22/3) sent people to pretend to be passengers and rented a private car for $800 on an online platform. They travelled from Kowloon to a hotel in Sai Kung and then to the airport. During the operation, they arrested a 29-year-old driver on suspicion of illegally driving a car for rent or rental purposes. The car was used for carrying passengers for remuneration and without third-party insurance. The car was also detained by the police for further inspection because it did not have a taxi permit issued by the Transport Department and was suspected of violating road traffic regulations.
