Students at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Clear Water Bay, Sai Kung, can now be taught by “AI lecturer” Albert Einstein. Professor Pan Hui and a research team have developed 10 AI instructors using AI tools. These include a 3D full-body generator that creates characters with authentic-seeming facial expressions.

Aside from the genius who developed the theory of general relativity, the instructors include influencers, policy activists and 2D and 3D anime characters. In time the UST wants to introduce AI classrooms tailored to each student’s interests.

AI tools used by Prof. Hui’s team also include the AI-image generator Midjourney, ChatGPT and Bing. The instructors they have developed teach “social media for creatives”, which is available to students at the local HKUST and the one in Guangzhou. Courses cover using social media for story telling, creating games, immersive technology, Non-Fungible Token and nudge theory.

Prof. Hui said, ” . . . AI teachers possess the ability to transform previously mundane subjects into captivating ones.”
