Readers who follow the fortunes of the Kadoorie family, Hong Kong’s famous Iraqi Jewish clan, will be interested to learn their riches have taken a spectacular leap upwards. The Kadoories built the luxury Peninsula Hotel London with opulent residences attached. Now some of the richest people on the planet are snapping up those residences, eg Blackstone founder Stephen Schwarzman, Citadel hedge fund boss Ken Griffin and WhatsApp owner Jan Koum, who have bought mansions at prices topping HK$1 billion. As residents of The Peninsula, they will have access to a chauffered Roll-Royce fleet, an indoor swimming pool with “a sculptured ceiling like an ice cave”, catering from the five-star hotel including special dishes for pets, and daily fresh flowers.

The Peninsula Residences
These Peninsula apartments hold the record as the most valuable in London, according to Knight Frank agent Rupert des Forges. The residences are at Belgravia with views of Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park. With the hotel the residences cost HK$10 billion to build; the residences alone have so far brought in sales of HK$20 billion.
