Sai Kung’s biggest party, Hebe Haven 24 hour dinghy race, postponed until May 2026

Sai Kung’s biggest charitable event, the 24-Hour Dinghy Race at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club due to be held on 25 and 26 October, has been postponed to next year. HHYC announced that the 24 hour Charity Dinghy Race 2025 has been postponed. This is due to the date clashing with other sailing events and a shortage of boats. The next 24hr Charity Dinghy Race is now planned over the long weekend of 1-3 May 2026.

Kay Rawbone, co-founder of the Sai Kung charity Sailability, said they will lose about $200,000 of funding, Kay said. The charity has given thousands of disabled and disadvantaged people sailing experiences at sea.

“The postponement will disappoint many volunteers, school children looking forward to the racing, retailers planning to set up booths  selling their wares, and others,” Trevor Bailey, a SAI KUNG BUZZ team member who has covered the dinghy race countless times, said.

Said Rawbone, “We will all be getting our heads together again to make this new date bigger and better than before with new things to come and see and hopefully more attendance thereby raising more funds for the charities. It is a loss financially for all charities concerned and hopefully next year will be a bumper year for everyone.

“Sailability Hong Kong plays a big part in this event, with Mike and I many years ago, making a way for Sailability sailors to join the race. This inclusion in the race was then followed a few years later by sailors from the other beneficiary charities. They learned to sail with the HHYC and Sailability so that they could truly be part of the event. We now have four of the five charities sailing: Sailability, TREATS and SKDCC sail in our dinghies and CCF sail in Club dinghies.

“Last year saw 10 Sailability dinghies (more than a third of the fleet) entered and we would like to see 14 Sailability dinghies join next year. We are also hopeful of some overseas para-inclusive sailors joining us too. “Thank you everyone who had expected to take part. We hope you will be able to join next year.”
