Kung Kung Kiosk on the Sai Kung Waterfront
The Kung Kung Kiosk — lovely name — is a worthy addition to the Sai Kung waterfront. Kung Kung means mother’s father and in the past was a name for palace eunuchs. It’s self-service, so why nine staff behind the counter? One girl has cute pink hair. The Kung Kung is nicely decorated with warm red ceilings, red-tiled walls and gold design touches.
The menu is short and simple with good prices: hot dogs $38, baked potato $68, waffles $78, ice cream $48. A good place to take the kids, safe for them to run around, or sit with your feet up and an iced beer $68 to hand, watching the Passing Parade and the view of birds*, dogs, sea and islands.
The smaller shop, leased from the Government by the same owner, remains boarded up. As reported in BUZZ previously, the owner, Jeremy Chan, said he plans to open a western-styled restaurant called Asgard as well as the Kung Kung coffee shop.
* If you are lucky, you will see crested mynahs, magpie robins, grey herons, egrets or terns. We wonder why the impressive flyers, the kites, didn’t turn up this year in large numbers as usual.
