Emergency services, including the Government Flying Service, carried out a search and rescue operation around Lai Chi Chong, in the Sai Kung West Country Park, this morning after a couple were reported missing. They were eventually found safe and well around 9:00 am this morning and escorted back to safety by around 11:00 am.
The couple were reported missing by a friend around 1:00 am. He had not been able to contact them by mobile phone and was worried that the phone had run out of electricity and that the couple were lost. They had left Sai Kung around 7:00 pm last night.
The couple were taken to Ma Liu Shui Police Base, where they were checked over and found to have no injuries.
Lai Chi Chong is the south coast of the Tolo Harbour, and is famous for its various igneous and sedimentary rocks formed 140 million years ago. It has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
