76-year-old man knocked down and killed in Sai Kung

Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sai Kung this morning (5/6) in which a 76-year-old man died.


At about 6:20 am, a private car driven by a 26-year-old man was travelling along Wai Man Road in the Sai Kung direction. He reportedly knocked down the 76-year-old man who was crossing the road near the minibus terminal. The victim sustained serious head injuries after hitting the windscreen and being thrown for about five metres. He was rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 7:49 am.

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries and is required to report back to Police in mid-July.

The victim was a cleaner at the tennis courts in Sai Kung for about 10 years. This morning, he was walking to the tennis courts from his residence in Kap Pin Long San village on his way to work. He was killed in a car accident 100 metres away from his work place. He has two grown up children.

Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is underway.    Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2305 7500 or 2305 7571.
