The police seized 8.25 kgs of agarwood in Sai Kung, valued at between HK$800,000 to 1.2million, and arrested a mainland man holding a two-way permit.

The police carried out an anti-burglary operation in Yung Shue O and Sham Chung, Sai Kung on 8 July. They saw two men acting suspiciously near the fishing rafts in Yung Shue O. When they approached the two men fled. One of them put down the rucksack containing burglary tools, jumping down the hillside and escaped, but the other resisted and was caught. Afterwards, police seized 20 pieces of suspected agarwood of various sizes and weighing about 8.25 kilograms in the man’s backpack and arrested him.

The Assistant Commander (Operation) of Sai Kung Division, said that the arrested 28-year-old mainland man was suspected of theft, attempted burglary and wounding. It is understood that the man is from Guangdong. He came to Hong Kong via a land port earlier with a two-way permit. The investigation believes that the arrested man, and the escaped fugitive, belong to the burglary gang who are active in Sai Kung. They are involved in many cases, including a total of HK$110,000 in property.

The police are looking for a Chinese man, about 30 to 40 years old, 1.7 metres tall, of medium build, speaking local dialect with a Mainland accent, and wearing a dark long-sleeved top and trousers at the time of the incident.
