Around 8:00 am this morning (7/10), a local resident found a wild boar in an animal trap on Ho Chung Road near Kai Ham Village in Sai Kung. The boar was about 1.5 metres long and its neck was encircled by the steel cable of the trap, making it difficult to breathe.

The boar was still conscious and struggling when the police, fire fighters and SPCA personnel arrived at the scene but did not approach the animal and notified the AFCD to send personnel to assist. The SPCA personnel came forward with a wooden ladder, covered the wild boar’s head with a blanket, and then cut the steel cable. SPCA personnel gave the boar first aid by applying extracardiac pressure, but it was eventually confirmed dead.

AFCD and EPD officers are investigating the incident. According to the Wildlife Protection Ordinance, placing animal traps is illegal, and violators may be fined up to HK$50,000.
