Countdown starts to Sai Kung’s top animal welfare event, Concert for the Animals – cancelled

Owing to operational difficulties this event has been cancelled. BUZZ apologises to all looking forward to the event.

It’s one month to go to the fourth Concert for the Animals, the biggest animal welfare event on the Sai Kung calendar. This year it will be on 24 November from 6:00 pm at Hebe Haven Yacht Club, co-organiser with Hong Kong Buzz news magazine. The entertainment line-up is superb: Sai Kung Mini-Singers, kids who sing and dance with faces painted as puppies and kittens; DJ Alex Croft who will blast the decibels until the crowd hits the dance floor; Bollywood Dancers with their high-energy Bhangran style; MC Stu Pyrke who will crack the craic; and Pineapple Jam: George Derisely of PJ says they “deliver a countryside slice of bluegrassy folk to get your boots astompin’. Sing along to old favourites, a few sea shanties and original tunes inspired by their home along the Sai Kung waterfront.” Lizzie Sharp and kids will decorate the Garden Bar.

The concert will be held in the Garden Bar at HHYC

The last Concert for the Animals raised $78,000 for Catherine’s Puppies, as well as publicising the work of Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals and Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation*. This year Kirsten’s Zoo cat rescuers have been added. Tickets will be $300 for adults and $150 for kids (16 or younger). Once you’ve paid and booked in, you’ll be entitled to two standard drinks and vegetarian buffet.

Great fun was had by all attendees at the previous three concerts

The organising committee for this year’s Concert is Catherine Tromans, whose charity Catherine’s Puppies looks after about 100 dogs, Carol Biddell, co-founder of Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals, Charron Robertson, Events Manager at HHYC, and Roger Medcalf, who created the Concert for the Animals about six years ago.

The Sai Kung animal welfare charities supported by the Concert

Most people like the concept of a show dedicated to supporting dog and cat charities. About 400 have been known to come and go during the evening. Do show up, drink, eat, drink, be merry, drink, dance and support good causes.

*Narelle Pamuk, founder of Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation, told BUZZ she had been very successful raising money, so funds were given by the organisers to Catherine’s Puppies. Sai Kung Lost Found Injured Animals is supported by AFCD so does not rely on donations.
