Nine Dragons trail-running race seeks volunteers to man checkpoints

Volunteers to man checkpoints are being sought by organisers of the Nine Dragons Race to be held from 16 to 18 February. The Nine Dragons was created by RaceBase, co-founded by the late Nic Tinworth who died of brain cancer a few years ago. Nic was a legendary ultra-runner and event organiser who is commemorated by the Tinworth Trail.

At the checkpoints during the race volunteers will serve runners drinks and food and ensure they get medical attention if needed. Volunteers are offered various benefits including a T-shirt or hoodie, cash to help with transport costs (selected races) and “a hug from the Race Directors.”

Legend has it that the Nine Dragons were named in 1278 after the eight hills of Kowloon and the boy emperor Bing during the Southern Sung Dynasty.

RaceBase, the company co-founded by Nic Tinworth who died at 44 years of age, organises many trail-running events including Country of Origin, the Great Relay and the Nine Dragons.
