Ko Lau Wan, Sai Kung

A 59-year-old man reported to police that he fell into the sea while using a stand-up paddle board for water sports in Shenzhen yesterday (24/2). He managed to float with the current all night to Ko Liu Wan, Sai Kung.

He got ashore on his own and called the police for help via a resident’s phone. When ambulance personnel arrived at the scene, they found abrasions on his face and feet and sent him to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the man lives in Wong Tai Sin District. Yesterday afternoon, he went to the area from Yantian to Meisha in Shenzhen to indulge in various water sports. By around 4:00 pm, he was feeling exhausted. Initially, he was still able to send messages to his wife and seek help from mainland authorities, but later lost contact. His 34-year-old son also called the police in Hong Kong at around midnight, and the Marine Police, Government Flying Service and other inter-departmental searches were conducted in the Mirs Bay area. Finally, at around 11:52 this morning, after drifting with the water for about 20 hours, the victim finally drifted ashore at Ko Liu Wan, Sai Kung, 15 kilometres away. He borrowed a phone from a resident to call the police himself, but there was no danger.
