The house belonging to the late Graham Eckersley at Pak Tam Au in the Sai Kung Country Park has gone on sale, asking price $30,000,000. The three-story house, called Braemar, has an attractive location at the summit on the road that goes to Hoi Ha and Wong Shek. It is first in a small row of houses with hiking trails in all directions.
Graham Eckersley was one of the most popular people Sai Kung has known. He behaved like a politician, smiling and talking to just about everyone he met. SAI KUNG BUZZ dubbed him the unofficial Mayor of Sai Kung. After his wife Wendy died, Graham was alone in the big house. Friends concerned about him as he aged tried to talk him into getting a helper, but he wouldn’t do it, saying he wanted to leave all his money and assets to his sister, Elizabeth, who has now, presumably, put the house on the market. Graham wasn’t entirely alone; he had dogs. “I don’t adopt the dogs. They adopt me.”

The house sale is being handled by Eastmount Property Agency Ltd — next to The Picture House — run by Marco Ma and his wife. Eastmount says Braemar was renovated recently “with a modern design, avoiding the typical village house look”. Features include floating walls, a custom stainless-steel staircase, heated floors (which you’d want at that high, windy location) and solar panels generating up to $7000 every two months. It is clear Graham, a former Dairy Farm manager, did well for himself. The master suite has a king-sized bed with a spa area featuring a jacuzzi and a Harvia sauna. Eastmount’s conclusion: “It combines modern luxury with practicality, offering a serene retreat with high-end amenities, perfect for those seeking comfort and style in a village setting.”
They got the latter wrong: it’s a leafy countryside setting.
