AFCD boat catches fire at Sai Kung Marine Police base; two hospitalised

A boat fire occurred in Sai Kung this morning at 11:48 am (10/9) when an Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department vessel carrying three people suddenly caught fire at the stern, accompanied by an explosion. Firefighters arrived at the scene and dispatched a smoke-protected unit to extinguish the fire.

Two male AFCD staff members were injured in the incident: a 68-year-old male suffered burns to his face and hands, while a 33-year-old male suffered abrasions to his feet. Both were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment.

The 68-year-old suffered second-degree burns to 20% of his skin and required burn dressings on his face and hands upon arrival. It is understood that the AFCD vessel had just been refueled when the explosion and fire occurred. The stern of the vessel was engulfed in flames, and one of the outboard motors was also burned.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
