A dog died from poisoning in Sai Kung on 5 November. Tuppy (full name Tuppence), a well-behaved two-and-a-half-year-old dog, was walking with its owner to and from farmland in Sha Kok Mei, Sai Kung in the morning when it suddenly vomited and showed signs of poisoning at 2:00 pm. By the time it was taken to the veterinary clinic, it was too late. Tuppy passed away in the arms of its owner, Karen Sarah Ball. Karen is extremely saddened and hopes to remind people in Sai Kung to be vigilant about whether anyone is poisoning dogs on the roadside.
Tuppy was a puppy rescued from an illegal breeding farm by Catherine’s Puppies. Karen, who frequently volunteered for Catherine’s Puppies, decided to adopt Tuppy after learning that she resembled one of her previous dogs. Tuppy got along very well with Fozzie, another poodle in Catherine’s household, and they had a very close bond.
She and her husband took their two dogs for a walk in Sha Kok Mei North at around 9:00 am. They went to her husband’s farm to retrieve equipment, making two trips between the parking area and the farm. Most of the route they took was on concrete. They returned home at 11:00 am. Unexpectedly, Tuppy suddenly started vomiting and showed signs of poisoning at 2:00 pm and her condition deteriorated rapidly.

The route taken on the fateful day
When they took the dog to the vet clinic, the dog had gradually lost consciousness in the car, but it woke up briefly after arriving at the clinic. Unfortunately, it eventually passed away in Karen’s arms. Karen and her husband were very saddened by the sudden death of their beloved dog.
They retraced their steps afterward but found no poisoned bait. Tuppy wasn’t seen eating anything on the road that day, and their dog Fozzie wasn’t poisoned either. Karen hopes to warn dog owners in Sai Kung to be careful, as many people walk their dogs in that area, and some community dogs also pass through.
