Around 9:30 am yesterday (23/1), a 64-year-old man fell from a height of six metres near a shipyard in Pak Sha Wan, Sai Kung, sustaining serious injuries. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance in critical condition. It is understood that police received a report of a fall and injury yesterday morning, but no officers arrived at the scene. However, the injured man’s son called the police again at around 4:00 pm today, stating that the incident involved a workplace injury. After investigation, the police believe that the man accidentally fell while performing maintenance on the rooftop. He was conscious when taken to the hospital but subsequently fell unconscious.
The injured man’s family revealed that the victim suffered a brain hemorrhage, injuries to his limbs and pelvis. After being sent to the hospital, he underwent a seven-hour brain surgery and is currently in a coma.
It is reported in the media that the victim had been doing short-term, daily-paid maintenance work at the shipyard since early January. At the time of the accident, he was installing zinc sheets and applying sealant. It remains unclear whether he was wearing a safety harness. No one witnessed the fall, and co-workers only raised the alarm after finding him lying on the ground.
