Eeejit pushes a dog along a Sai Kung street in a pram. Drongo watches. Then goes to buy his dog a pram. Lunkhead sees Drongo with his dog in a pram, and thinks . . .
And so it goes.
Idiocy begets imbecility.
We see these thoughtless, insensitive people every day. They don’t stop to think what their sad dog would like. Often we see dogs clearly desperate to get out of the pram, run around, get some exercise and enjoy all those smells dogs find so interesting.
Pushing an able-bodied dog around in a pram is harmful to the animal’s physical and mental well-being, according to Dr Pauline Taylor, former SPCA director and now principal of Pets Central. Dog prams are “gimmicks and unnecessary”, Dr Taylor said. Walking a dog in a pram can cause obesity — we have seen this — and increased isolation leading to canine fear and behavioural problems. Putting a dog in a pram, or dressing it up, is a misguided form of care, prioritising human desires or daft fashion ideas over the dog’s well-being.
Ignore the brainless people you see with dogs in prams. Better, try gently to talk them into letting their dogs walk as they clearly want to. Maybe you’ll do better than me.
The eejits, drongoes and lunkheads ignore me.
