Goodbye Viet Kitchen, hello Ocean Paradise
Well goodbye Viet Kitchen, the outlet that replaced well-loved Italiano’s in Yi Chun Street near Butcher King last July. I suppose twelve months is about standard for restaurants to live and die in our town. It’s now called Ocean Paradise, and serves a range of seafood, pasta and deserts.
Prices are around the usual for places near the square. It’s in the middle of its soft opening – so go along and have a look.
U-Select x2So, it’s finally open. The new U-Select supermarket in Yi Chun Street near Pets Central is full of customers – even while the old shop is still open. There seems to be more stock but not much more variety. Let’s hope they don’t run out of Tesco’s frozen delicacies as frequently – although they probably will as they are supplied from the same warehouse. Keep an eye on price differences though. The navel oranges that cost $15.90/4 in the old shop looked to be $21.90/3 in the new one, although I couldn’t see if they were identical. Sadly, checkout is just as slow with only two registers, same as the old store.
Another hairdresser pops upAnd yet another hairdressers makes an appearance. As if we don’t have enough hairdressing salons in town, here comes another one. Situated in Yi Chun Street opposite Poets and The Boozer, KK cut hair (sic) is offering a “professional hair cut” for $50 during its opening promotion period. At least us SKers should all be nicely shorn – no excuse for any tonsorial turpitude.
More empty shops by 1A terminus – why?
The area adjacent to the 1A minibus terminal should, in theory, be one of the best places in town for fast food to go. But all is not as it seems. Why would two fast food places close down within a couple of days of each other? High rents we assume. S&H can’t even remember what was there before – we assume one was selling chicken, the other fish. Maybe that’s the problem along with greedy landlords.
