A group of hikers walking long a footpath near Tsak Yue Wu, Sai Kung had a big surprise yesterday when they found the way blocked by a large snake trying to devour a wild boar.
The group went to Pak Tam Chung for a hiking outing and were walking towards Tsak Yue Wu when they saw a wild boar about one metre long being strangled by a giant python. The boar was quite still, presumably dead, while the snake distended its body to swallow the pig. After about 10 minutes, the giant python finally completely swallowed the whole wild boar. Whilst the hikers stood and looked, the snake, now with a very big bulge in its body, slithered off to a nearby rock to digest its meal.
AFCD has warned hikers to not disturb any large snakes, but to call their emergency number ad alert them as to the location. Dog owners are advised to keep their dogs on leads in these areas.
