Malaysian professor Khaw Kim-Sun, sentenced to life in jail in 2018 for the Sai Sha Road murder that astounded Sai Kung in 2015, was stripped of his medical qualifications and registration in a hearing before the Medical Council on Monday (6/7).
Owing to the seriousness of the case, the council sentenced Khaw to indefinite removal of the qualifications of general and specialties, with immediate effect. In addition, Khaw did not notify the medical committee within 28 days after the crime was committed. He was found to be professionally wrong and issued a warning letter. He did not attend the hearing because he was serving his sentence, nor did he send a representative lawyer to the scene.
55-year-old Khaw murdered his 47-year-old wife Wong Siew-fing and 16-year-old second daughter Khaw Lai Ling on May 22, 2015. On the day of the murder, a passerby found a Mini Cooper parked outside the bus station in Sai O Village, Sai Kung. The two were lying on the front seats unconscious. Both died the day they were rescued from carbon monoxide poisoning. An inspection of the car found that there were no faults, but they found that the poison gas originated from a yoga ball in the boot.
The chairman of the Medical Committee quoted the judge’s verdict, saying that the defendant was a highly educated university associate professor. He pointed out that the defendant committed serious crimes, and it was unforgivable to fail to notify the medical committee within the time limit, nor was it suitable for continuing professional conduct. Therefore, the sentence was imposed indefinitely and the qualifications of general and specialist were removed immediately.
