The Marine Police Regional Task Force, the Marine Police Small Boat Division and the Marine Police East Division jointly conducted an anti-illegal immigration and anti-smuggling operation in the Sai Kung area at the end of last month (29/12) and seized 14 boxes of smuggled items. The market value is about HK2.5 million.

During the operation, a suspect private car was found parked on the shore of Nam Wai, Sai Kung and four suspicious men were found wandering nearby. Then a speedboat without navigation lights approached the shore. The four men and the driver involved in the case were seen moving the cargo from the car to the speedboat.

During the operation, the driver of the car involved immediately jumped into the speedboat with the four men and fled southward at high speed. Marine police officers launched a pursuit, but the speedboat finally left Hong Kong waters and headed towards the mainland.

During the operation, a total of 14 boxes of suspected smuggled items were seized in the car and on the shore, including dried shark fins, dried fish maw and old smartphones, with a total market value of about HK$2.5 million. The case was handed over to customs officers for further follow-up investigation.
