As reported on SPCA Facebook site, over three consecutive nights they received anonymous calls urging them to rescue abandoned cats in Sai Kung. A total of 35 cats, consisting of a large variety of breeds including Domestic Shorthairs, British Shorthairs, Scottish Folds, Chinchillas, Bengal, Siamese, Abyssinian, Rex, Maine Coon etc. have been discovered abandoned in the area.
SPCA inspectors rescued 14 cats on 24 September, an additional 13 on 25 September, and a further 8 on 26 September! The cats were found at three different locations across three days, but all within Sai Kung. Given the suspicious nature of these incidents, the matter was reported to the Police and the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) for investigation.
Currently, the SPCA is providing care for 27 of the rescued cats, while the AFCD has taken charge of the remaining eight found on Wednesday. The cats abandoned are all extremely affectionate, indicating they were previously owned. While most of the cats have health issues such as ringworm and cat flu, they are thankfully in stable condition under SPCA care after vet examination.
The pressing question remains: Who callously abandoned these innocent cats, and why would they do so? If you possess any information regarding these distressing events, please reach out to SPCA at 2711 1000 as soon as possible.
