
Pak Lap Wan, Sai Kung
Three incidents of swarms of bees attacking hikers occurred yesterday (10/8) at Yuk Kwai Shan in Aberdeen and Pak Lap in Sai Kung, resulting in a total of five people being stung, including a grandfather and grandson, a young man, and a father and daughter. Fortunately, all were conscious when they were sent to the hospital.
At approximately 8:00 am police received a report from a 76-year-old man who reported that he and his 14-year-old grandson were attacked by a swarm of bees while hiking on Yuk Kwai Shan in Ap Lei Chau. The two fled in different directions and were briefly separated. The grandson, who suffered a bee sting and suspected heatstroke, was picked up by a Government Flying Service helicopter and transferred to hospital for treatment. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for examination.
About five hours later, at around 1:00 pm police received another report from a 22-year-old man who was attacked by a swarm of bees while hiking on Yu Kwai Shan. He was stung on his hands, feet, and face. Rescuers arrived and rescued him by a Government Flying Service helicopter. He was conscious and taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment. Police are following up on both cases as hikers seeking police assistance.
Separately, in Pak Lap, Sai Kung, police received a report at around 6:00 pm that a family of five had been attacked by a swarm of bees while hiking, with two of them, a father and a daughter, being stung. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and found the father and daughter conscious. They were then taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
