Five years ago, BUZZ reported that a man who claimed to be a Taoist priest was suspected of inserting a dildo into the vagina of a 21-year-old mildly mentally challenged woman on the pretext of exorcism, and then shook the woman’s head against the wall. The woman eventually collapsed and died at her residence in Lung Mei Tsuen, Sai Kung. The Taoist priest was charged with murder and indecent assault, and the deceased’s mother was also prosecuted on suspicion of aiding or abetting the Taoist priest in indecent assault on the deceased. The two pleaded not guilty and the case started in the High Court yesterday (25/9).
The defendants, 54-year-old Cheung Chi-choi, a self-proclaimed Taoist priest and traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and 57-year-old Ng Ma Yu-gang, are facing murder and other serious charges. Cheung is charged with the murder of Ng Yan-yu on 2 September 2019, and with indecently assaulting her from 1 August to 2 September 2019. Ng is accused of assisting and inciting Cheung in the sexual assault of the victim, who was her daughter.
The prosecution stated that the deceased suffered from mild mental retardation, hearing and speech impairment. Policewoman Ng Mei Ling testified that at about 11:00 am on the day of the incident, she learned that a body had been found in a house in Lung Mei Tsuen, Sai Kung, and she went to the scene to investigate. The village house is four storeys high and has an altar. The deceased was found in a room on the first floor. She questioned the two defendants one after another. The male defendant said that he was a Taoist master from Maoshan and used to be a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. He stopped practicing medicine after 2017.

Under caution, Cheung claimed that the victim had been plagued by demons for months, prompting him to perform an exorcism. It is alleged that during this process, he used a dildo, purchased by Ng, to perform an invasive act on the victim. Additionally, the victim was subjected to physical abuse involving slippers and a mosquito bat, and her head was forcibly struck against a wall. It was also claimed that alcohol was forcibly administered to her.
The female defendant claimed she was his apprentice. The policewoman described Cheung’s appearance as “curious”, with long hair tied into a ponytail, and tattoos all over his body, including his face. “He feels like a master from Thailand.” She continued to testify that the female defendant told her that the deceased suffered from learning disabilities and slow hearing, and had attended a school for the deaf and mute. Since 2015, the female defendant had taken care of the deceased full-time and suspected that the deceased was possessed by evil spirits.
The female defendant continued that because she had studied numerology with Cheung and he had practiced Chinese medicine, she took the deceased to seek medical treatment from him. Cheung told the female defendant that the deceased had something evil inside her and the female defendant invited him to share the flat involved in the case so that she could take care of the deceased.
