The Marine Police Regional Task Force, the Marine Police Small Boat Division, the Marine Police Outer Police District Task Force and the Marine Police Eastern Division, together with the Customs and Excise Department Maritime Joint Task Force, carried out anti-illegal activities in the Sai Kung area last night (4/3). During the anti-smuggling operation, 21 boxes of smuggled lobsters were seized.

After in-depth investigation and intelligence analysis, the police suspected that criminals had been conducting smuggling activities in the Sai Kung area recently. During the operation, the police discovered that a suspicious speedboat without its navigation lights was approaching the shore of the West Dam of the High Island Reservoir, and a seven-passenger car also drove to the nearby roadside at the same time. Two suspicious men got out of the car and moved the goods.

The police immediately took action, and the two suspicious men immediately jumped on the speedboat and fled south at high speed. Marine police officers immediately launched a pursuit, but the speedboat eventually fled the waters east of Hong Kong and headed towards the mainland. During the operation, police officers seized a total of 21 boxes of approximately 417 kgs of suspected smuggled lobsters with a total market value of approximately $320,000, as well a seven-passenger vehicle on the shore. The case is being investigated by Customs officers.

According to the Import and Export Ordinance, any person who imports or exports unmanifested goods may be fined up to $2 million and imprisoned for seven years upon conviction.
