A 90-year-old driver was hospitalised after his car rolled backwards, hitting the wall of a village house in Kap Pin Long San Tsuen, Sai Kung this morning (21/8).
Around 9:30 am the driver of a car being driven along Po Lo Che Road, Sai Kung was suspected of not applying the handbrake correctly, allowing it to roll two metres backwards towards the wall of a village house. The 4-metre brick wall collapsed and was scattered in the garden of the house.
It is reported that the driver of the car suffered an injury to his foot and needed to be taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The police cordoned off the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
It is currently unknown whether the structure of the village house involved was affected. The owner of the house, who was not on the premises at the time, said he initially estimated that repairs would cost HK$50,000 to HK$60,000.
After preliminary investigation, the police said that the male driver was 90 years old and held a Hong Kong ID card. His foot was injured and a breathalyser test was negative. At that time, he was driving in Kap Pin Long San Tsuen, stopped outside a village house, and started to get out. He suspects that he forgot to pull the hand brake, causing the vehicle to roll backwards, hit the outer wall, scattering rubble in the garden.
The case was classified as a traffic accident; a neighbour contacted the homeowner on his behalf to return to deal with the aftermath.
