BUZZ unscientific survey: Starbucks food vastly improved; avoid McDonalds at all costs

If you’re thinking of going into McDonald’s to buy takeaway, don’t. Keep walking until you come to Starbucks. McDonald’s food is rubberised or plasticised, sometimes both. Go into the shop and you will see big black walls have been erected behind the counter so customers can’t see the dodgy process making stodge. This is all about maximising profit for the fat cat owners of Big M stores, CITIC Capital, Trustar Capital (52%) and McDonald’s Corp of the US (48%).

Starbucks food has improved vastly, according to a SAI KUNG BUZZ unscientific survey. Look at the cheesecake with lovely blueberries on top, the cottage pies, chicken pies and sausage rolls, the smoked bacon and egg croissant, chicken fritter and cheese pineapple bun, tuna and cheese quinoa pocket, chicken caesar wrap, blueberry and chocolate muffins, Greek-style yogurt, red bean, mango and passion fruit drinks. And healthy, large-tray meals: Soba noodle with teriyaki chicken and smoked salmon with egg salad.

Quality people frequent Starbucks. If you are lucky you will see St Tina and St Roger with Mui, the abandoned girl they adopted and the reason they deserve the titles, visiting from Hangchow. Mui is visiting; Tina and Roger, perhaps the most devoted couple you will see around town, live here. Also you may run into Pastor Lucas of Resurrection Church or the tall South African vet, who wants to talk rugby. If you like dogs and dog people, you are likely to find some outside, scruffy and happy.

McDonald’s recently erected big black walls so customers can’t see its production process.

Good place Starbucks*. Ronnie McDonald and his friends, Mayor McCheese, Hamburglar and the Fry Kids, may be amusing, but you don’t want to eat their food. Supersize me? No thanks.

*Don’t go into Starbucks if you’ve had a few stiffeners of the alcoholic sort. The wavy, out-of-focus decor will make you confused. I haven’t had that much to drink!

PS. And a tip for Starbucks management: have the exterior cleaned with a high-pressure hose.
